Helichrysum italicum essential oil works like a dream on your skin! If you are looking for a natural way to reduce fine lines, scars and redness, then I would definitely give this essential oil a try. Sometimes I will use both Helichyrsum and Biotin on healing scars, and I find that they work great together. With a little digging, you can find a great quality essential oil online or possibly at your local Health store.
I know that there is a very, very expensive skin-line (L’Occitane) that uses Helichrysum ( also known as Immortelle or Everlasting) as its main ingredient. I really like their products, and often get them as gifts for people I really like, BUT they are super pricey and also say that their plant source comes from France. It’s illegal to harvest Helichrysum in France, so my guess is that their “pure and natural ” product must be a blend of essential oils or partially modified in a lab. My advice would be to find Helichrysum essential oil from Corsica or Bosnia, because the plant is harvested naturally in those locations. You can easily purchase Helichrysum AS an essential oil, which is also a lot cheaper than the high-end skin cream!
The great thing about this essential oil is a little goes a long way! You only need a drop of this essential oil to witness its skin-enhancing effects. It is also extremely gentle on the skin, and I haven’t experienced any odd allergic, flaking or inflammatory reactions from it. It also smells GREAT, as it was first used as a fragrance for tobacco pipes. 🙂
The healing properties innate to Helichrysum are mysterious. On the molecular level it has a lot of diketones and terpenoids, but the entire plant is known for its healing capacities.
For skin care, I would mix 25 drops of Helichrysum essential oil in a 100 ml bottle with the base oil of your choice. Use one drop and rub in a circular fashion over any scars, lined or inflamed areas of your face.
